Day 121 - Monday

U.S. History I - Periods 2, 5, and 6: 
Essential Question:
-Does state or federal government have a greater impact in our lives?
-How has American's justified Manifest Destiny?
-Why did Americans feel so compelled to expand the country westward?
-How might the country have developed differently if no gold or other precious minerals had been discovered in the West?
-Does war cause national prosperity?
-Is economic, social, or physical coercion an effective method of achieving our national interest in domestic affairs

3. Westward Expansion and Pre-Civil War Overview - Read and discuss the highlights

Homework:
1. Complete the Map Activity on Westward Expansion by Tuesday (Periods 2 will be Wednesday because they do not have class tomorrow) and the rest of the packet (pages 4-6) by Wednesday (again, except for Period 2 who will complete it for Thursday.)

2. Binder Checks will happen on Wednesday - For periods 2 & 5.

U.S. HISTORY II - Period 1:
Essential Questions:
-Why was it important for Americans to remember D-Day?
-How did D-Day change the course of the war, and potentially the course of history?
-In what ways did the U.S. decision to join WWII impact the European Theater or battle?

1. Today you will complete your ATOMIC BOMB DEBATE.  You should have already filled out an Atomic Bomb Debate Organizer to assist you and please don't hesitate to bring up any documents on Atomic Bomb Debate Format doc for exhibits as you make arguments and present evidence.

***The goal is that everyone can EXPLAIN 3 CLAIMS and provide clear EVIDENCE for your ARGUMENT about the atomic bomb. 

Team 1: "Should the U.S.A employ atomic weapons to defeat its enemies in war?" 

Team 2: "How should we remember the dropping of the atomic bombs?"

Homework:
1. Team 1 Prepare for "Closing Statements" and Team 2 prepare for your debate on Thursday when we actually meet again this week.

2. Due by Thursday - Please read Chapter 26 - Section 1 - Origins of the Cold War - pages 808-814 and complete the entire short packet on World War II to Cold War: Transitioning to another kind of war.

2. Was NATO just or unjust in participating and executing their mission in your post-Cold War scenario?

Use the Issues in Globalization and Global Policy Organization links to begin researching issues and specific areas of globalization of culture, politics, economy, law, and table/charts on Globalization that interest you. You will be generating ideas for your next project and you need some familiarity with some of these issues/topics for your upcoming project.
