Day 77 - Wednesday



U.S. History I - Periods 2, 5, and 6: 
Essential Question:
-What does it mean to be an "American"?
-What do we want from Government?
-What are the rights, liberties, and responsibilities of U.S. citizens?
-Is the U.S. Constitution a living document? If so, how is it a living document?
-Does our state government or federal government have a greater impact in our lives?
-Do separation of powers and checks and balances make our government work too slowly?

Themes: Republicanism, US Constitution, Bill of Rights, Articles, Liberties, Citizenship, Checks and Balance, Separation of Powers, digital story-telling, writing out scripts.

1.  A digital story on the U.S. Constitution will continue to be presented TODAY in the following order:

Homework:
1. Using The George Washington Packet please complete Pages 8-11 tonight for homework if you have not already done so. This will cover Chapter 6 - Sections 1 & 2 from George Washington's Presidency. The entire packet is DUE on Google Classroom by 7:30 AM Thursday, January 7, 2016.

1. We will evaluate the Write-Around Summarizing Activity from yesterday's reading homework/2-column notes from the article titled The Middle East and the West, from the 5-part series displayed on National Public Radio and updated in December 2015. We will focus on a jigsaw activity that requires each small group to utilize it's 2-column notes and write-about summaries to teach the other groups about their topic and to engage in mutually shared ideas.

Group B - (Kevin and Minji) - Carving up the region - meaning imperialism & World War I and it's Aftermath
Group C - (Kerri and Natasha) - The Rise of the U.S. in the Middle East

2. Going back to 1948 and the creation of Israel. The last 67 years have really escalated the anger the Middle East has toward The West. Use this slideshow to help build an understanding of this turning point in the 20th Century conflict.
