Day 68 - Thursday...all classes are 35 minutes long today.


U.S. History I - Periods 1, 5, and 6: 
Essential Questions:
-What do we want from Government?
-Does our state government or federal government have more of an impact in our lives?
-Does the system of checks and balances provide us with an effective and efficient government? 
-Is a strong federal system the most effective government for the United States? Which level of government, federal or state, can best solve our nation's problems?

1. Everyone will be going to the Library to FINALIZE your research and execution of your Digital Story Telling Project. Make sure you can summarize and highlight the major aspects of your Article(s) and/or Amendments AND also make plenty of connections to how these pieces of the Constitution are relevant to today. Finally, PLEASE make sure you review the Tips on DST and the Rubric on DST in the class folder, these documents are designed to HELP you succeed!

1. You should be putting the final touches on your Digital Story Telling Project.  Please make sure you have:
  • An Essential Question - We should all be able to answer it after your presentation.
  • A Thesis Statement - Prove it in your Digital Story!
  • Reviewed the DST Rubric
  • A final draft (Script and Link/Movie of your project) in your Project Folder.
2. Finalize your U.S. Constitution Article or Amendment. You should have managed, added credible research material, and have a FINAL WORKS CITED PAGE (Chicago Style Format) in your Google Doc in our Classroom Project Folder. Remember the Due Date is Friday, December 12th at 7:00am

1. "The Road to 9/11: A Brief History of Conflict in the Middle East" (PBS, 2006). There is NO Youtube clip on this, so I will show it in class on Wednesday through Friday.  Due Friday, December 12th - After watching the movie titled "The Road to 9/11: A Brief History of Conflict in the Middle East" (PBS, 2006). Please answer the following questions below from the movie and previously studied material from our case study/debate on the Taliban/Al Qaeda.

Road to 9/11 Questions: All students should be able to answer these questions below after watching the movie.

1. Are we winning or losing this war?

2. Can this war be won?

3. Is there a competition for hearts and minds? If so, who is winning the hearts and minds of Afghans? Who is winning the hearts and minds of Americans?

4. What progress have we made in Afghanistan? What progress have we made in Pakistan?

5. What is President Obama's strategy for this war?

6. Does the film have an agenda? What perspective and tone does it give to Americans? Cite specific evidence.

Essential Questions on Taliban Rule in Afghanistan:
• What is the relationship between Islam and the Taliban?
• How does the Taliban try to control Afghan women?
• How has the experience of Afghan women changed with the Taliban’s emergence?
• What was the United States’ role in the Taliban coming to power?
• How is clothing used as a means of oppression in Afghanistan?
