U.S. History I - Periods 2, 5, and 6: 
Essential Question:
-Was the Monroe Doctrine a policy of expansion or self-defense? 
-Was the Monroe Doctrine a disguise for American Imperialism?
-Was John Quincy Adams deserving of his presidency?

As you read, make note of the major themes and then major events that happen by creating a TOP-DOWN WEB.  Additionally, please complete the American System and James Monroe Handout

We will eventual move to a jigsaw activity with a Write-Around takeaway at the end.

Due FRIDAY.  Please pick 3 visuals that help capture the moment of what was happening in your section. YES, this means you will need to go to Google or the BHS Databases to grab images and put them in a google doc to share with your team and the class tomorrow. Review Chapter 24 - World War II Looms - pages 734-763 AGAIN, more specifically the sections and pages you were assigned below AGAIN :) Please put these visuals on a Google Document and then post them to Google Classroom.

Essential Questions:
1. What does international studies mean?
2. Should we enforce the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in countries not our own? If so, how? If not, why?
3. Is the world safer today with the United Nations than it was in 1945?
4. Is the United Nations an effective peace-keeping organization?
5. What should be done to improve the effectiveness of the United Nations?

University of California organized a UN resources guide - Honestly, the BEST and most ORGANIZED I have seen yet on how to research issues concerning the United Nations.

Homework:
1.  Due Thursday: What's in the news today on the United Nations? Go out and find UN related websites that will help you fully understand the role it plays in the world. Which news stories interest you and why?

2. Due Friday: Once you find a subject you are interested in using the UN Website or one of the UN resources I provided you above, please write an overview, an evaluation of what the issue is, who is involved, what is the UN doing, and do you think the UN will be successful or not? Evaluate why the UN will be successful or why it will fail.
