U.S. History I - Periods 1, 5, and 6: 

Essential Questions:
-Who were the heroes and the losers of the American Civil War?
-What military lessons can we learn from the fighting in the American Civil War?
-How and why did President Lincoln's position on slavery, race, and emancipation change over time?
-Was the American Civil War worth it's costs?

2. Please listen to Bruce Levine's National Public Radio Interview about how did African-Americans Experience the American Civil War.  Please use this radio podcast and your knowledge of African Americans in the Civil War and during Reconstruction to answer an response to the question on "Did African-Americans win racial equality thanks to the Union government during the American Civil War and Reconstruction?

Homework:
1.  Reconstruction Packet to illustrate a basic understanding of Laws, Andrew Johnson, and the South - Please read over the "Reconstruction Outline" highlight, make notes in the margins, and ask questions on anything you are struggling to comprehend. Also, please complete pages 5 + 6 on the Andrew Johnson's Impeachment and African-Americans changing society. 

3. Please read/review Chapter 12 - Sections 1 - 4 - pages 376-401 - Reconstruction and It's Effects -  Make a list of all the SUCCESSES (progress) and the FAILURES of Reconstruction of the United States of America. Due Wednesday BEFORE class begins
