Day 139 - Friday

U.S. History I - Periods 2, 5, and 6: 
Essential Question:
-Does state or federal government have a greater impact in our lives?
-How has American's justified Manifest Destiny?
-Why did Americans feel so compelled to expand the country westward?
-How might the country have developed differently if no gold or other precious minerals had been discovered in the West?
-Does war cause national prosperity?
-Is economic, social, or physical coercion an effective method of achieving our national interest in domestic affairs

Themes:  Westward Expansion, Continentialism, Manifest Destiny, American Exceptionalism, Native America attrition, The Gold Rush, Diverse Immigration

1. The "Other Side" was not so happy with all of the changes going on in America from 1816-1860. Several groups of people and individuals spoke out against these rapid changes going on in America.  As a result, we will be briefly covering the reform movements in America during the above time period.  Please complete pages 5-11 on The Land of Reform using Chapter 8 pages 240-258 by FRIDAY at 11:59 PM.

5. We will look at quick look a who's in and who's out and what primaries have played an important role over the last three weeks. Let's evaluate the results and the upcoming primaries.

Homework:
1. Please remember to post your THESIS STATEMENT by Friday on the Research Paper Signup Sheet.

2. Due by Friday evening: Please complete pages 5-11 on The Land of Reform using Chapter 8 pages 240-258 by FRIDAY at 11:59 PM.

U.S. HISTORY II - Period 1:

Essential Questions:
-Who is responsible for starting the Cold War?
-Why didn't the Cold War ever turn "hot"?
-How did the Cold War challenge American values, at home and abroad?
-Is the Cold War still going on? How?

Themes: Failed Conferences, The Iron Curtain, Containment, The Korean War

1. I have introducee the MAJOR RESEARCH PAPER for Quarter 4 on any US History Topic from 1900-2016.  Please pick a topic you are passionate about and would want to investigate more. You will need to fill out the Sign-up Topic Spreadsheet AND CONDUCT RESEARCH to begin formulating a specific topic area and a thesis statement.
Homework:
1.  Please see Google Classroom and conduct your research on your GENERAL TOPIC for your major Research Paper for Quarter 4 and PREPARE YOUR THESIS STATEMENTS.  This paper will be a 6 week process, but your first step is to figure out what MAJOR TOPIC/THEME you want to learn more about.  Please conduct research tonight and tomorrow during class and put fill out the TOPIC SIGN-UP SPREADSHEET by Friday.

International Studies - Period 7

1. Is globalization a path to a brighter future?
2. Has globalization made human beings more isolated or integrated in the global society?

Themes:  Globalization, sustainability, Race to the Top, Race to the Bottom, global equability, interconnected communities, global marketplace

You should be preparing for your H2H first round match-ups for the Debate on Globalization Topics. Please continue researching, managing, and analyzing how you will win your Head-to-Head Debates on Round One. I passed out the hard copy version of the debates and the electronic version is in the Globalization Project Folder.
