Day 145 - Funday Monday baby!

U.S. History I - Periods 1, 5, and 6: 

Essential Questions:
-Was slavery a humane or evil institution?
-What military lessons can we learn from the fighting in the American Civil War?
-How and why did President Lincoln's position on slavery, race, and emancipation change over time?
-Was the American Civil War worth it's costs? 

Themes: State Rights vs. Federal Government, Abraham Lincoln's Dilemma, Secession, Anaconda Plan, The Confederate Army of the United States vs. The Union Army, Key Battles/Turning Points

1. We will continue learning about the early stages of the American Civil War, so please DOWNLOAD the Civil War Slideshow - and then review slides #1 - 15. Please DOWNLOAD the Review Guide and The American Civil War Battles Sheet - and then use the textbook - Chapter 11 - pages 336-345, and slideshow above to complete pages #1 & #2 on this review guide. 

2. Next, please DOWNLOAD The Civil War Begins Packet - completing the ENTIRE 7 PAGES for class and homework. You will need to read/review textbook pages 338-345. The MAP should be completed as well.

U.S. HISTORY II - Period 4:

Essential Questions:
- Who is responsible for starting the Cold War?
-Why didn't the Cold War ever turn "hot"?
-How did the Cold War challenge American values, at home and abroad?
-How was the Cold War Foreign Policy of the 1970's and 1980's different for Americans then the 1950's and 1960's?
-Is the Cold War still going on? How?
-Did America learn foreign policy lessons from The Vietnam Conflict?

Themes: Containment, Domino Theory, The Vietnam Conflict

1. The 1980's Group should be prepared to present to me tomorrow (when I get back) regarding 
-Who were the American Presidents in the 1980's  
-What were America's foreign policy regarding the Cold War?
-Which events were consistent across the board in the 1980's? 
-What common patterns in America's foreign policy do you recognize as you move through the 1980's?

2. We are moving to The Vietnam War - Please read the Vietnam War Overview found on Digital History. What are the 3 most impactful ideas you learned about the Vietnam War? Additionally, go to the Vietnam War Digital History "The Meaning of the Vietnam War" - What do you think is the meaning behind the Vietnam War?  Summarize your thoughts and give me a thesis statement/major argument about the Vietnam War after reading BOTH SOURCES above. 

3. Go to Ho Chi Minh - Who was this man? What impact did he have for the Vietnamese during the Vietnam War? Do you think he was a hero or a instigator? Please defend your answer in a paragraph format (4-5 sentences). 

4. Go to Vietnam War Digital History and click on John F. Kennedy, then LBJ, then Richard Nixon (3 separate links on 3 different Presidents. Make a Graphic Organizer that looks like a 2-column chart, on one side are the 3 Presidents names (leave plenty of space in-between) and the other side is VIETNAM POLICY. What I want you to do is to use the link above to read about Presidents JFK, LBJ, and Nixon and their policies on the Vietnam War.  Did they increase troops, did a conflict occur while they were President, how did they deal with this crisis, did they make it worse or better?  I am looking for you to address these issues and what role each American President played during the Vietnam War.

Modern America Class - Period 7
Essential Questions:
1. How much do popular trends reflect and/or shape American values and traditions?
2. Does our entertainment reflect society, or does our entertainment shape our society?
3. What is Pop Culture?
4. How do we know if something is Popular Culture?

Themes: Pop Culture, Top Charts, American Exceptionalism, 1990's Decade, 1990's TV, 1990's Major Events in Politics, Culture, Sports, Science.

1. Please watch the early events and concerns of the 1990's on National Geographic Series "The Decade that Made Us - 1990's". It's a 45 minute video and you will need to create a 2-column chart - On the RIGHT SIDE please include the major details of the movie clip regarding the 1990's, and on the LEFT SIDE please review all of your details and give the MAJOR THEMES/IDEAS that illustrate the political, cultural/pop culture, and economic ideas of the early part of the 1990's. 

2. 1990's Resources:
-What happened in the 1990's - ThePeopleHistory.com - Toys, Sports, Furniture, Events, Fashion, Appliances, and Music are all categories you can investigate.

Homework:
