U.S. History II  - Period 1: 
Essential Questions:

-Were railroads and banks doing what was best for America in the late 19th century?
-Has rapid industrial development been a blessing or a curse for Americans?
-Were big business leaders "captains of industry" or "robber barons?"

1. We will quickly complete The Chinese Immigration DBQ after you have shared your responses with a partner Documents A, B, C, and D. We will explore the following 2 questions
A. "Why did many white Americans support the Chinese Exclusion act of 1882?
B. What factors contributed to the Chinese Exclusion Act?"

A. What factors (pay close attention to industries, management styles, and business models) contributed the to wealth of America?
B. What was the government policy and did government change it's tactics as business got much bigger and stronger?

3. Please watch Andrew Carnegie and Robber Barons tonight for homework.

A. Where was there tremendous growth in the U.S.A?
B. Who were "Captains of Industry"? Why were they called this?
C. Who were "Robber Barons"? Why were they called this?
D. Did the American government help or hurt these business men?
E. Why does Andrew Carnegie get so much attention? What is his story?
F. What was the "Gospel of Wealth" about? How much did Carnegie give?
G. Does "Social Darwinism" or "Reform Darwinism" work for our world?

1.Please finish watching the Andrew Carnegie and Robber Barons tonight for homework and complete the questions....Your focus should really be on question G so that you can prepare for our mini-debate tomorrow in class.

1. Test today on the Causes of the American Revolution - study guide for Chapter 4 - Sections 1 & 2.

2. Binder Check - When you come into class there will be 5 assignments that I need to see organized in your binder.  If you have a paper binder then you should have all paper.  In contrast, if you have an electronic binder, then you need to have everything organized digitally.

Homework:
1. Please read pages 113-117 and complete the graphic organizer on Advantages and Disadvantages and then at least 2 battles using the American Battles Organizational Chart. Also, Valley Forge is not a battle, but plays a pivotal role for the Americans, so please make sure you evaluate it on your American Battles Organizational Chart.

2. Please review the Project on the American Revolution Battles tomorrow you will pick your group-mates and begin research.  Your project is due Thursday BEFORE CLASS using the shared American Revolution Project Folder.

3. Please begin to utilize this slideshow on the Critical Periods in the American Revolution to help you understand the flow and sequence of the American Revolution.

International Studies - Period 3 
Essential Questions:
1. Does NATO have a new role in the order of international relations in Europe and the World in the 21st Century?


Themes Global Awareness, Global cooperation, United Nations, Human Rights

1. In groups, students will examine a scenario/event/ involving a post-Cold War NATO action from 1992-current day. If you are totally unhappy with your event, you may pick another one, but the research is all on your group.

2. All groups will begin analyzing the crisis and determining whether the NATO's response was appropriate and within the original intent of the North Atlantic Treaty, students will present their scenario to classmates in a presentation style of their choice and highlight how it connects to NATO's mission both past or current on Thursday, October 18th.

3. The MUST HAVES:

A. NATO's past and present missions (NATO changed their mission statement in 2012.
B. Post-Cold War Events/Missions/Summits - You can pick any event
C. A NATO slogan for that particular event/mission/summit - You must make an original slogan!
D. Primary and Secondary Sources - which include visuals, original eye-witness documents, legal document/resolutions, political cartoons, newspaper accounts.
E. Understand the NATO Rubric.

4. The NATO PROJECT - We will begin all the activities listed in this project.
