Day 77 - Monday - Happy New Year Everyone...Yah 2015!


U.S. History I - Periods 1, 5, and 6: 
Essential Questions:
-Does state or federal government have a greater impact in our lives?
-Is a strong federal system the most effective government for the United States? Which level of government, federal or state, can best solve our nation's problems? 
-Was George Washington a good president?

4. We will explore and learn about the legacy of George Washington's commitment and accomplishments to the U.S.A. using the History Channel's The Presidents

5. Questions to Discuss:

   1. What does President Washington see as dangers to the success of a newly formed United States of America?

   2. What arguments does Washington use to support his statement that the government is the "main pillar" of independence? Why does he see this as so important and how can it be protected?

   3. Washington writes that in foreign policy "Our detached and distant situation invites and enables us to pursue a different course." What course of action is he arguing that the nation should take?

   4. What advice did George Washington offer to the nation? Why?

Homework:
1. Re-read and update your notes on Chapter 6 - Section 2 - "Foreign Affairs Trouble the Nation" - textbook pages 190-196, please make sure complete pages 10 & 11 in The George Washington Packet are thoroughly completed.

-*Did the United States foreign policy during the 1930's help promote World War II?  OR: Could the United States have prevented the outbreak of World War II?

*Should the United States sell arms to other nations? OR: Should the United States have aided the Allies against the Axis Powers? OR: Does the American security depend upon the survival of its Allies?

* Was war between the United States and Japan inevitable in World War II?

1.  Pass back the Great Depression and Franklin D. Roosevelt Essay.

2. Research using the BHS Library Databases and utilize the textbook Chapter 24 - page 732-741 to answer the 2 questions below:
a. What were the major causes of World War II?  
b. How did America respond in the early 1930's-mid-1930's? Meaning, what was our foreign policy plan in the 1930's to what Germans and the Japanese were during in Europe and Asia?

3. As a class we will discuss and comprehend the MAJOR CAUSES of World War II

4. Tomorrow we will successfully complete a Gallery Walk of your ONE political cartoon that depicts the causes of World War II or the spirit of American's foreign policy in the 1930's and everyone will walk the gallery and analyze the different pieces of cartoons.  Be ready to share it with your classmates and me tonight and tomorrow you must have a printed up hard copy! Everyone must have a HARD COPY of their political cartoon!

Homework:
1.  Please go on the Internet and find ONE political cartoon (Here is a Google Spreadsheet to document what Political Cartoon you find so that NOBODY PICKS THE SAME ONE) that depicts the causes of World War II or the spirit of American's foreign policy in the 1930's and everyone will walk the gallery and analyze the different pieces of cartoons.  Be ready to share it with your classmates and me today! It needs to be printed up! Everyone must have a HARD COPY of their political cartoon!

2. Please complete this entire World War II packet by Thursday. It will take you about 1-1.5 hours to complete the whole identify, timeline, and America in World War II section.  Do NOT wait until  the last minute!

1. Your MAJOR End-of-the-Year Project is Global Security in the 21st Century and it is due in 3 days on Thursday, December 8th at 7:00am.

2. I will be going to each individual student to get an assessment of where you are at in your research and presentation stages.
